Virginia Arts Festival: Bela Fleck at the Williamsburg Lodge

Contributed by CW Burke

bela-fleckBéla Fleck is a living legend, widely held to be the most proficient and exciting banjo player in the world. For over 30 years now, Fleck has been recording and performing with his banjo, sometimes alone and sometimes with others, in a wide range of musical style ranging from bluegrass to jazz and occasionally lighter-rock. Throughout the many years and albums and performances, the banjo has remained and the banjo-playing has only improved to previously-unfathomable levels or expertise.

In the past few years, Fleck has traveled to Africa to learn the history of his favorite instrument, the trip resulting in a great full-length documentary, Throw Down Your Heart, a new acoustic album of the same name, the third album in his on-going Tales from the Acoustic Planet series, and a new triple-concerto live album with renowned Celtic bassist Edgar Meyer and Indian percussionist Zakir Hussain. All three of these recent works continue Fleck's legend and showcase the ways he continues to grow as an artist.

In support of his recent releases, Fleck will be performing with recent collaborators Edgar Meyer and Zakir Hussain on May 28th at the Virginia Arts Festival Virginia Room in the Williamsburg Lodge. Performing their triple-concerto, a surprising and breathtaking mixture of jazz, Indian folk forms, Appalachian folk and classical music, along with other songs from their respective catalogues, the trio, led by the masterful Béla Fleck, is not to be missed. Buy your tickets before it's too late!

5-Year Old Julian Pavone, The World's Youngest Drummer, To Perform At Benefit Concert For Children's Hospital
Saturday, 13 March 2010 00:00

WILLIAMSBURG, VA. (Top40 Charts/ Harmonie Network) - Julian Pavone, "The World's Youngest Drummer and Inventor!" will perform live at a benefit concert for Children's Hospital of The King's Daughters on Sunday, March 21, 2010. Doraldo Ristorante Italiano of Williamsburg, Virginia, has partnered with the hospital to host this inaugural fundraising event. Doraldo's founder, Charlie Messina, knew his cousin Julian would also support this wonderful cause. Charlie envisioned his venue, combined with Children's Hospital of The King's Daughters cause and Julian's participation would lead to an incredible event.

Children's Hospital of The King's Daughters leads the region as the preferred provider of quality children's health services.
Doraldo exemplifies southern Italian dining at its finest. With its "villagio" style, Doraldo makes patrons feel as if they have just entered an Italian village.

Julian is considered a musical prodigy by many. Joe Billingslea, who founded THE CONTOURS, likens Julian to a "modern Stevie Wonder" and thinks the kid has "serious soul." He was offered a contract to be a member of the Cleveland Cavaliers' Drumline at age 15 months (the youngest member by 16 years!). Then, at 20 months, Julian recorded a CD, "Go Baby!," with legendary bassist Ralphe Armstrong. Since then, he has received worldwide media coverage with more than 10,000 newspaper and magazine articles published about him.

He has also appeared on more than 100 Television and News shows, including "The Oprah Winfrey Show," "Good Morning America," "The Maury Show," "Martha Stewart" and many more. He has also starred in a television show pilot, "Finding Julian's Band," created by Rocky Seprino and had a documentary about him produced by Korea's Seoul Broadcasting Systems.

He invented and received a patent for "Abracadabra" Stain Cover-up, now also making him "The World's Youngest Inventor!" His SECOND invention, "Julian's Drum Gloves," is patent pending.

He has received numerous honors and awards, including "Maury's Most Talented Kid" of 2009 and "The 2007 Rock and Roll Lifetime Achievement Award." He is featured in "Ripley's Believe it or Not" and included in the Guinness Book of World Records as a performer in "The Longest Concert by Multiple Artists." He is an Honorary Goodwill Ambassador for Muscular Dystrophy Association and The Miracle League of Michigan.

Multi-award winning production company, WonderWorld Entertainment, signed the prodigy drummer to 13 television episodes. Julian will star in and co-host the show, "All You Need Is Music," with Michael J. Powell (4-time Grammy Award winning producer).

Most recently, Motown music icons, The Contours with Joe Billingslea, best known for their 1962 hit "Do You Love Me," have added Julian to their group. Julian will be singing, dancing, drumming, and touring with members, Joe Billingslea, Charles Davis, Al Chisholm, Gary Grier and Odell Jones.
