george-washingtonThe celebration of Washington's Birthday, February 22, as a holiday dates back to around Washington's presidency. Later on, Abraham Lincoln was also born in February, on the 12th. Presidents' Day is, officially, still called Washington's Birthday - a 1960s bill to rename the holiday "Presidents' Day" was defeated in Congress, but the day (February 18 this year) was moved to a Monday between the two presidents' birthdays, and most people now celebrate the holiday in honor of both presidents.

I can't say I'm terribly disappointed.
